English Lyrics Sob Loke Koy
One wears the beads as necklace
while another counts the beads on Tasbih
Is that how we’re separated by religious identity?
One wears the beads as necklace
while another counts the beads on Tasbih
Is that how we’re separated by religious identity?
But when we depart the world or arrive here,
What sign of religion do we carry?
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
Says Lalon, “I am yet to see…
Says Lalon, “I am yet to see…
…the real face of religious identity!”
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
O Kabir,
O Kabir, it is the same one wellspring,
O Kabir, it is the same one wellspring,
From where all our water came
It’s our jars that are different,
It’s our jars that are different,
But the water is the same!
But the water is the same!
This topic of religion is conversed everywhere
People boasting glory of creed here and there
This topic of religion is conversed everywhere
People boasting glory of creed here and there
Says Lalon, “I’ve peddled my religious identity…
Says Lalon…
Says Lalon…
Says Lalon, “I’ve peddled my religious identity
Around the free marketplace of diversity!”
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
Says Lalon, “I am yet to see…
Says Lalon, “I am yet to see…
…the real face of religious identity!”
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
Everyone here wonders curiously,
Which religion does Lalon belong to really?
ShobLokeyKoy is dedicated to the eternal love for human beings. Looking back at the human history one cannot help but wonder, that we as a species, have always been a part of a single consciousness. Where in one part of the world Shakespearean folks say Fee-fi-fo-fum, in the other part of the world the Bengalis say Hau-mau-kau to que in a ghostly presence. Our expressions might be different, but our emotions are just the same no matter where we come from or who we are.
The same can be said about the mystic poets Fakir Lalon Shai and Kabir Das who had never crossed paths. Neither did they preside in the same era. Yet, like a divine connection, they shared the same space in philosophy and in ideology. They believed in harmony and co-existence of Men. When we listen to “Shob Lokey Koy” and “Kabira Kuan Ek Hai” together, it becomes evident that we are all connected in a single consciousness of humanity. It is in our DNA to co-exist and love each other as human beings, to be compassionate and live in harmony.
